Review: Erasable Chalk Sprays & Chalk Markers

With chalk paint products, you have the ability to create temporary graffiti, drawings, texts, or guerrilla actions. Think of restaurant boards, brainstorming on glass walls, or a marketing campaign. Chalk paint is available in both chalk spray and chalk markers.

Montana Colors takes chalk spray a step further by dedicating a full PRO line to it. In addition to MTN Pro Chalk Spray, there's also chalkboard spray paint available, and finally, a chalkboard spray that is magnetic! These water-based chalk products are designed to be used in combination with each other and serve as an interesting creative tool for everyone, from artists to designers and illustrators.

Chalkboards are incredibly useful for notes and visualizing almost anything. The reusability of chalk on chalkboards is what makes things intriguing in any creative space. The chalk spray not only adheres to chalkboards but also to a wide range of surfaces including plasterboard, cement, wood, ceramic, plastic, glass, and cardboard.

Note, never spray it on a (as a joke), we've heard stories that it can bite into the topcoat of paint and cause permanent damage.

MTN PRO Chalk Board Spray Paint Overview

The MTN PRO chalkboard paint is designed to mimic the properties of a chalkboard. This unique chalk paint formula can be applied to various surfaces, instantly transforming them into functional chalkboards.

Similar to Montana Colors Water Based spray paint, MTN Chalkboard Spray Paint is a water-based formula. It comes only in a highly opaque black matte finish. The paint dries quickly and will not stain or smudge once fully cured.

As spray paint, MTN chalkboard spray is easy to apply. We recommend applying two even coats on the surface. This ensures a durable, long-lasting result. Additionally, ensure the surface to be sprayed is thoroughly cleaned beforehand, removing any grease, dirt, or other residues. This is to ensure maximum adhesion of the chalkboard paint as well as optimal coverage.

The MTN PRO chalkboard paint is compatible with various chalk products, including traditional drawing chalk, liquid chalk markers, chalk paint, and chalk sprays! When you're done with your project, simply wipe away the chalk with water, leaving your chalkboard surface intact!

MTN PRO Magnetic Chalkboard Spray Paint Overview

The magnetic chalkboard spray is a supercharged version of the "standard" Chalk Board Paint. By adding charged magnetic particles to the original chalkboard formula, Montana Colors created a product that, when sprayed, transforms any surface into a magnetic chalkboard. This feature allows magnets to adhere to the coated surface, making it even more interactive for the user!

Similar to the MTN Proline Chalkboard Paint, the magnetic chalkboard paint is a water-based formula with a highly opaque matte black finish. However, to achieve maximum magnetic strength, we recommend applying at least five to seven coats.

Furthermore, because the magnetic powder tends to settle at the bottom, we recommend shaking the spray can thoroughly before use. If not shaken enough, the paint may come out thick and eventually clog the cap. Even after extended shaking, the spray can may still clog during spraying. In that case, simply turn the can upside down and press the cap for about five seconds, shake the can vigorously, and then continue spraying.

Erasable chalk markers and chalk sprays

In our range, our personal favorite chalk spray is MTN Erasable Chalk Spray Paint. While the quality of Montana-Cans Chalk Spray is comparable to MTN, the price is just a bit more favorable.

As for chalk markers, our personal favorite is Molotow Chalk Markers. At Suitup, you'll find a wide selection of chalk products, each available in a beautiful range of colors with a matte finish, including: yellow, orange, red, pink, blue, green, black, white, silver, and gold!

MTN PRO erasable chalk paint is available in two different spray cans, a regular 400 ml can and a miniature 150 ml can. This chalk spray dries very quickly, provides high coverage, and has a barely noticeable scent, making it perfect for indoor use. Furthermore, Erasable Chalk Spray Paint contains no solvents, lead, or heavy metals, making it environmentally friendly!

For writing or detailed work, chalk markers are often more convenient to use than spray cans. Our personal favorite are the Molotow chalk markers. They are of high quality and perfect for many applications, such as coffee menus, creative spaces, or even classrooms. The markers are filled with the same chalk formula as in the spray cans and therefore, like the spray cans, provide high coverage. They are available in 3 different sizes: a round 4mm tip, a 4-8mm chisel tip, and a 15mm square tip.
